Hattie Tackett (1852 -1933)

From the ECW

At its June 1986 meeting the ECW of St. George’s voted to give a thousand dollar memorial in memory of Hattie Tackett to the Organ Fund. Many have said “who was she” besides someone for whom a. Chapter has been named.

We are grateful to Barbara Willis, our in-valuable historian for finding Hattie Tackett’s obituary in the January 6, 1933 issue of the Free Lance-Star. Following is an excerpted account from that notice in the paper. “She was born in Fredericksburg in 1852 and had been a devoted member of St. George’s Church since childhood and deeply interested in every phase of the church’s life and work, serving until the end, as custodian of the UTO. Always a lover of music Mrs Tackett developed to a marked degree a fondness for the music of the church and was for many years the faithful and devoted organist of St. George’s. She was also a member of the Fredericksburg Literary Club – 1899-1927…. She was the widow of Charles E. Tackett, a vestryman of the church between the years 1847-1874. She is buried in the Confederate Cemetery next to her husband who died in 1910.
